History of the Department
The department of English Language and Literature was established by Dr Khosrow Gholamalizadeh and Mrs Nahid Qa'emi in 1994. This department embarked on its mission of admitting BA students of English Teaching in order to supply the professional workforce required for teaching English at the schools run by the Ministry of Education. Having achieved this goal, the department moved on to the establishment of English Language and Literature program at bachelor's level. Over time and with more faculty members coming in, the department of English Language and Literature initiated graduate programs, and began to run Master's programs in Linguistics, English Language Teaching, and English Language and Literature in 2001, 2005, and 2007 respectively. After the successful experience with undergraduate programs and considering the great potential the department's faculty members showed, the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology granted the permit to the department to run PhD programs as well. The first round of PhD students of Linguistics were admitted in 2011, and the same happened, two years later in 2013, to those of Teaching English Language and English Language and Literature.
