Core Responsibilities:

  • Developing a comprehensive university-wide research plan; overseeing research activities across the University; and coordinating the activities of affiliated units
  • Promoting and facilitating academic research aimed at addressing scientific, economic, industrial, agricultural, and medical needs
  • Coordinating the University's research programs and priorities with relevant ministries and governmental institutions
  • Preparing, reviewing, and proposing research regulations and guidelines, and monitoring their implementation
  • Strengthening the University's financial capacity by developing and implementing research projects and programs commissioned or supported by governmental and private-sector institutions
  • Equipping, upgrading, and expanding faculty laboratories and research facilities
  • Developing and strengthening cooperation with domestic and international universities and research institutions in the areas of joint research, student exchange, academic teaching, and the organization of scientific seminars and conferences
  • Organizing scientific seminars, conferences, and other academic events in cooperation with the faculties
  • Conducting studies and developing appropriate plans and mechanisms for evaluating the University's research activities
  • Establishing well-equipped and advanced research centers to promote fundamental and applied research and address the scientific and developmental needs of the country
  • Directing and supervising the activities of the Computer and Information Center, the Office of Applied Research and Technology, the Center for Scientific Publications and Library Management, and the Research and Laboratory Affairs Office
  • Collaborating with the Research Vice-Deans of the faculties in procuring domestic and international academic books, journals, and other scholarly resources
  • Allocating study opportunities and research fellowships to outstanding students in accordance with relevant regulations and priorities
  • Supervising the development and organization of research topics for student theses and dissertations, as well as research activities undertaken by faculty members
  • Developing programs to expand faculty members' participation in study and research opportunities at domestic and international academic and research institutions, in accordance with the country's scientific and research priorities
  • Creating the necessary conditions and opportunities for faculty members and students to participate in academic and professional associations and scholarly communities at the national and international levels
  • Supervising the preparation, negotiation, establishment, and implementation of research contracts and agreements between the University and ministries, governmental organizations, industries, and other public and private-sector institutions
  • Preparing the annual budget and financial estimates of the Office of the Vice President for Research and Technology and submitting them to the Office of Planning and Budget
  • Preparing monthly and annual reports on the activities and performance of the Vice Presidency for Research and Technology and submitting them to the University Presidency, the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, and other relevant institutions
  • Creating the necessary conditions for faculty members and students to participate in scientific, national, and international festivals, competitions, exhibitions, and other scholarly events
  • Managing the University's patent-related affairs and following up on the registration and protection of inventions developed by University researchers
  • Following up on intellectual property rights and related matters concerning the research outputs and innovations of University researchers
  • Conducting studies and implementing appropriate mechanisms for evaluating research activities and assessing the University's annual research performance
  • Developing, implementing, and monitoring policies and procedures concerning laboratory safety
  • Establishing and supporting a University Council for Safety, Environment, and Health
  • Guiding and supervising all matters related to occupational and laboratory safety, environmental protection, health, and the prevention of unsafe practices and activities across the University
  • Performing any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the University authorities in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies
