Biography
I am Dr. Alireza Bagheri, a faculty member in the Department of Plant Production and Genetics Engineering at Razi University. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy and Plant Breeding from Urmia University between 2000 and 2004. Driven by an interest in plant identification—particularly weeds—and their management, I pursued graduate studies in Weed Science, enrolling in the Master’s program in 2005 and the PhD program in Agronomy specializing in Weed Science in 2008. During my graduate studies, my research focused on the spatial distribution and population dynamics of weeds in agricultural fields. My doctoral work further examined the effects of grazing intensity on the diversity indices of various plant communities and modeled the spatial distribution of certain plant species under climate change impacts in Golestan National Park.
Since 2013, I have been serving as a faculty member at Razi University, guiding numerous master's and doctoral theses. I have also held administrative roles, including Head of the Department of Plant Production and Genetics Engineering and currently Acting Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering.
My research interests encompass the influence of management, climatic, and topographic factors on crop and weed performance; the ecology, species composition, and diversity of weeds; and their impact on crop growth and yield. I am also committed to applying Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing techniques for crop and weed management, modeling vegetation cover distribution across geographic scales, assessing climate change effects, and identifying suitable cultivation areas for various crops within diverse geographic regions.
