The Department of Basic Sciences was established in 2010 as an independent department within the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. It is responsible for education and research in a wide range of disciplines, including Anatomical Sciences, Histology and Pathology, Biochemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology, Parasitology, Microbiology (Bacteriology, Mycology, Immunology, and Virology), Health and Food Quality Control, and Aquatic Animal Sciences.
To support education and research, the Department is equipped with specialized laboratories in Biochemistry, Physiology and Pharmacology, Histology and Pathology, Parasitology, Microbiology, Mycology, Immunology, Virology, and Health and Food Quality Control, as well as a fully equipped Dissection Hall.
The Department of Basic Sciences is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and scientific innovation. It welcomes national and international academic and research collaborations and is prepared to engage in a wide range of cooperative educational and research activities in support of the scientific community.
