The department of Materials and Textile Engineering of RU gained independence in 2014. This department admits students for BSc programs in Materials Engineering and Textile Engineering. Graduate (MSc) students could also enroll in two programs of Materials Engineering (Nanomaterials and Materials Identification). This department attempts to educate and train experts and creative human resources, thanks to experienced professors and the potential young academics staff offer.
Having a high rate of employment-to-investment, Textile Engineering provides different fields for activity. Students at BSc levels are initially admitted for only one program (Textile Engineering), but based on the educational and research equipment, can major in one of the fields of Textile Technology, Textile Chemistry, Apparel and Design, Technical Textiles, and Fiber Science, among which Apparel and Design courses are currently offered by the department of Materials and Textile Engineering. Textile engineers learn fiber identification, fiber production from synthetic polymers, fabric formation, dyeing and finishing process for different applications e.g. apparel, flooring, concrete and composite reinforcement, medical and military etc.
Materials engineers not only create new materials but also improve existing materials. Everything we use is, in fact, made of some material or combination of materials. Materials engineers are involved with all the processes that change natural resources into useful products that impact upon every field of our economy such as aerospace, electronics, transportation, communication, construction and environment. The materials that support our living environment are not just metals but include ceramics, polymers, and composite materials made of these. They must meet demands for high performance and diverse functionality. Therefore, students in the department of Materials Science and Engineering gain the basic knowledge and concepts necessary for creating materials, on the way to becoming engineers and researchers who can contribute to society by supporting the next-generation materials industries on the global stage.
