The Department of Chemistry was established in 1979 within the Faculty of Science. Subsequently, in 2008, the Department of Applied Chemistry was founded as an independent academic unit under the Faculty of Chemistry. At present, the department has four full-time faculty members, including two professors, one associate professor, and one assistant professor.
Graduates of Applied Chemistry play a key role in chemical industries and executive organizations that engage with chemical materials. Students of Applied Chemistry at Razi University are introduced to two areas of specialization at the master’s and PhD levels: Water and Wastewater Treatment Technologies and Biochemical and Biotechnological Technologies. Accordingly, specialized courses corresponding to these fields are offered.
In the Water and Wastewater Technologies specialization, students gain comprehensive knowledge of methods for analyzing and measuring the qualitative parameters of water and wastewater samples. They also acquire practical experience through applied research in engineering processes such as biological treatment, photocatalytic reactors, and membrane technologies.
In the Biochemical Technology specialization, research projects are conducted in areas such as targeted drug delivery, development of chemical and biosensors, fabrication of absorbable suture threads, design of biodegradable wound dressings, as well as surface coating and corrosion control.
