Biography

Dr. Yousef Azarakhsh is an Assistant Professor of Pathobiology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Razi University, Kermanshah, Iran. He received his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Tehran. His teaching and research activities focus on microbiology, infectious diseases of humans and animals, and the exploration of natural bioactive compounds as innovative approaches for the prevention and control of infectious pathogens.

Dr. Azarakhsh believes that a comprehensive understanding of microorganisms extends beyond the study of disease mechanisms. It provides the scientific foundation for developing innovative strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases. Guided by this perspective, his research adopts an interdisciplinary approach that integrates molecular biology, microbial genomics, biotechnology, natural product pharmacology, and the One Health concept to address emerging challenges at the interface of human, animal, and environmental health.

His research is primarily devoted to the discovery and development of natural bioactive compounds, particularly those derived from medicinal plants and other indigenous biological resources, as alternative or complementary strategies for combating antimicrobial-resistant pathogens. His research interests include antimicrobial resistance, biofilm inhibition, quorum sensing interference, molecular diagnostics of infectious agents, molecular epidemiology, medical and veterinary mycology, zoonotic diseases, and the application of microbiology in veterinary medicine, public health, and food safety.

As an educator, Dr. Azarakhsh teaches courses in Mycology, Bacteriology, Biology, and Laboratory Techniques in Microbiology. He strives to create a learning environment that goes beyond the transfer of theoretical knowledge by encouraging scientific inquiry, critical thinking, research design, and problem-solving skills. He believes that effective education should inspire students to become creative, responsible, and independent researchers capable of addressing real-world scientific challenges.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Azarakhsh has participated in numerous research projects focusing on the identification of emerging bacterial and fungal pathogens, the investigation of microbial pathogenic mechanisms, the evaluation of natural antimicrobial compounds, and the development of innovative strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance. The outcomes of these studies have been published in peer-reviewed national and international scientific journals.

Dr. Azarakhsh is an active member of several professional scientific organizations, including the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the Iranian Society of Biology, the Iranian Society for Microbiology, and the Iranian Society of Medical Mycology. He considers interdisciplinary collaboration and international scientific partnerships essential for advancing impactful research and translating scientific discoveries into practical solutions.

His long-term academic vision is to advance innovative research in applied microbiology through the discovery of natural bioactive molecules and the integration of emerging technologies such as genomics, metagenomics, nanobiotechnology, and artificial intelligence. He believes that the future of microbiology lies in the convergence of life sciences, biotechnology, and medicine, and that educating the next generation of researchers is fundamental to addressing global challenges such as antimicrobial resistance, emerging infectious diseases, and biosecurity.
