Omid Sohrabi, PhD in Medicinal Plant Science and Engineering, with a focus on medicinal plant biotechnology and applied plant metabolomics.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree from Bu-Ali Sina University, Hamadan, Iran
• Master’s degree in Medicinal Plants, Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources
• PhD in Medicinal Plants, University of Guilan

Professional Experience

• Assistant Professor at Razi University since 1402 (2023/2024 academic year)
• Department of Horticultural Science and Engineering
• Primary responsibilities include teaching, research supervision, and project development in collaboration with the university’s Technology and Entrepreneurship Unit.

• Endophyte exploration and engineering of medicinal metabolites
• Extraction of medicinal substances from plants
• Plant-to-plant applications of medicinal plants in life sciences (anticancer, antibacterial, and antimitotic compounds)

• Optimization of extraction processes for medicinal plants using a freeze-dryer system
• Establishment of a vanilla tissue culture technology unit
• Preparation of powdered extracts from two medicinal plants as growth stimulants in plant tissue culture
• Use of plant extracts to enhance medicinal metabolite levels in other plants (plant-to-plant interactions)

Agricultural/Horticultural Experience

• Olive cultivation and greenhouse production of cucumber and tomato
• Propagation of African violet and cultivation of evening primrose (medicinal plant)

Technology and Entrepreneurship

• CEO, Green Land of Vanilla Technology Company, focused on medicinal plant tissue culture and vanilla plant development
• In-house and manual oil extractor equipment developer
• Production of herbal powders to enhance efficiency in plant tissue culture
• R&D lead for new technologies and entrepreneurship initiatives
