Biography

Houshang Ghamarnia holds a B.S. degree in Water Engineering from Shiraz University and an M.S. degree in Irrigation and Drainage Engineering from Tehran University. He received his PhD in Water Engineering from Newcastle University, England in 2001. He began his official collaboration with Razi University in 1991. He is now a Professor in the department of Water Engineering at the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Engineering.
 
Dr Ghamarnia has been teaching several courses to undergraduate students such as Principles of Irrigation, Principle of Drainage, Drainage Engineering, Weather and Climatology, Preliminary Surveying, Advanced Surveying, Design of water structures I, Design of water structures II, Design of modern irrigation systems.

Also, the courses he usually teaches to graduate students include Drip Irrigation system Design, Sprinkler Irrigation System Design, Management and Operation of Irrigation networks, Research Method, Evapotranspiration, Iran's water issues and problems, Unconventional waters use, and Water Resources Engineering.
His research interests are various topics related to water resources engineering, Evapotranspiration of water, Modern Irrigation Systems, the Application of GIS and Satellite Images in Water Engineering, Unconventional Water Use in Various Parts, Groundwater, Water Stress, Salinity Stress and Water Quality.
Currently, Dr Ghamarnia has 300 articles published in national scientific research journals, foreign ISI journals, national and international conferences, and he is the author of six books in various ares of water engineering.
In addition to a Ph.D degree, he also has P.Eng and PMP degrees. Dr. Ghamarnia has also more than 35 years of experience in giving counselling to engineering companies and designers and he has been consulting engineer of more than 200 projects executed throughout the country in various areas of water engineering.
