Synthesis and Characterization of UV-Stable Hybrid Pigments Using Layered Double Hydroxides (LDH) and Theoretical Study by Quantum Simulations and Calculations

Abstract

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are materials with a well-defined layered structure and high anion-exchange capacity, providing an excellent platform for functional hybrid pigments. In this study, magnesium-aluminum LDH was synthesized via a controlled co-precipitation method, Subsequently, hybrid composites of alizarin red s, indigo Carmine and their mixture were synthesized and characterized structurally and optically using colorimetric analysis, CHN analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and UV-Visible spectroscopy. Quantum chemical calculations and molecular simulations were also performed to investigate the interaction mechanisms between the dyes and the LDH layers. The findings provide valuable insights into the design of tunable LDH-based hybrid pigments for various applications.
