Abstract

Abstract The present study was conducted with the aim of analyzing the lived experience of adolescent girls regarding their fathers' remarriage. This research was applied in terms of purpose and qualitative in terms of execution method, which was carried out using a phenomenological method. The statistical population of the research included all female adolescent students of the first and second high schools of Kermanshah city in the period of 1404-1405 and in the age range of (12-18) years, whose fathers had remarried (due to the death of a spouse - or divorce). In this research, 13 teenage girls were selected according to theoretical saturation and by purposive sampling method. The method of accessing the statistical sample was by the researcher referring to the first and second high schools of districts 1 to 3 of Kermanshah province. To collect data, semi-structured interviews were used, from the 7-step method, and coded using (MAXQDA-2024) software. After examining the data resulting from the research and coding, finally out of the total 13 interviews, 150 primary codes, 55 sub-categories, and 8 main categories were obtained. These 8 general categories included: "emotional detachment with the father", "collapse of boundaries in the family", "challenges of accepting the stepmother's role", "dysfunctional coping strategies", "social stereotypes and judgments", "structural deprivation in the transition process", "adaptation and acceptance of the stepmother", and "revival of belonging and security in the family". The general conclusion of the research findings showed that the children's lived experience of their father's remarriage is a dynamic, multi-stage, and non-linear process. Also, this research showed that the father's remarriage can affect various aspects of adolescent girls' lives. Family and marriage counselors should give the necessary awareness to the couples resulting from remarriage that the presence of children from a previous marriage can cause challenges in couple and family life; and similarly, each of the couples must have the necessary readiness to create a balance in the family with the presence of the child and the new spouse.
