Biography

Alireza Zebarjadi holds a B.S. degree in Agronomy and Plant Breeding from Razi University and an M.S. degree in Plant Breeding from Tarbiat Modares University. He received his PhD in Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering in 2005 from Tarbiat Modares University. He also passed 12 months (2005-2006) as a visiting scholar at Agriculture and Agri-Food Research Center in Canada. He began his official collaboration with Razi University in July 2006. He is now a Professor in the department of Plant Production and Genetics at the Faculty of Agricultural Science and Engineering.
 
Dr Zebarjadi has been teaching several courses to undergraduate students such as Plant Biotechnology, Plant Tissue Culture, Plant Breeding, Genetics and Statistics. Moreover, the courses he usually teaches to graduate students include Plant Cytogenetics, Genetics Engineering, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics and Plant Tissue Culture.

His research interests are various topics related to Biotechnology and Plant Genetic Engineering and their Application in Crop and Medicinal Plant Breeding with emphasis on Identification, Isolation, Cloning, and Manipulation, Genes involved in the Biosynthesis of fatty acids in oil plants such as chia seed, Canola, Safflower, Camelina, and Lallemantia iberica and gene transfer in these plants. Dr Zebarjadi also led a project titled " Optimization of tissue culture of medicinal and garden plants". He is also going to run a project on Classical and Molecular Modification of the valuable oil-medicinal plant (Chia seed) for cultivation in different conditions of the country.
Dr Zebarjadi has published more than 110 articles in prestigious national and international scientific research journals, registered 10 genes and supervised more than 60 postgraduate theses.

He has also served as the Director of the Educational-Research Farm, Vice President of Razi Campus and Vise President of Research and Technology (office) of Razi University between 2007 and 2022.
